"City of Murals"
Steubenville, Ohio ranks
among the top tourist attractions in the state. Gigantic murals depicting
life in the Ohio Valley around the turn of the 20th century decorate many
of the downtown building walls. "Preserving a Piece of America" is the theme
carried out by the projects guided tours. While there are now 20 completed
murals, tourists can view live artists at work from May to October each year.
An information center and gift shop is located on South Fourth Street in the
heart of the mural project. Guided tours explaining the history of each mural
are available to groups and a walking tour booklet is for sale to those not
with a bus tour. All day tours include Creegan's Animation Factory and Christmas
Store.
